A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann allegedly left her a phone message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and evidence retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most covered child disappearance cases and is still unresolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

Another recorded message, shared in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not important for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I have a existence here in Poland, I only wish to know," she added.

The tribunal was informed that through electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted family friends of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, the father responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my claim."

The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in last December.

Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had communicated through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the period leading up to the visit to that location, the county, in December 2024.

The court learned correspondence between the two defendants, in November 2024, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from utensils at a eating establishment.

"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the appearance to their home, the defendant dispatched a text which stated: "We are sitting near the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark like detectives. I had hoped to do this with another person I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."

The case proceeds.
